Bailey Award Winners Make the Difference for Students
Each trimester, two faculty members are honored at Commencement with the Robert L. Bailey Teaching Award. Graduating students are asked to identify one undergraduate and one graduate faculty member who had the most significant influence on them throughout their educational experience at Franklin University. The award recognizes those who have challenged students intellectually and guided them in finding the significance of the course content as it relates to them both personally and professionally.
Bailey Award winners at the undergraduate level for 2014 were: Stephanie Wagenschein (Accounting), Dr. Garry McDaniel (Human Resources Management) and Dr. Sharon Massen (Communications).
Student Nominations:
“Professor Wagenshein inspired our whole class to push really hard and went the extra mile with all of us by staying overtime, as well as off work hours to assist us with our homework and work. She is an amazing teacher and has encouraged me to keep pushing and keep striving to be successful.”
“Dr. McDaniel is truly very dedicated and always motivated us to reach further. He had a way to pull the creativity out of you and make you strive for more. He is one of the best teachers I have encountered especially in my online classes. He always did a superb job.”
“Dr. Massen is an amazing professor with the ability to push any student to their fullest potential. She has a teaching style that I have not seen before, but hope many will duplicate. I will use the knowledge gained from her six-week business writing course for the rest of my life, and hope to pass some of that knowledge to others.”
Bailey Award winners at the graduate level for 2014 were: Dr. Ron Hartung (Computer Science), Larry Baker (MBA) and Dr. Tom Seiler (Accounting).
Student Nominations:
“I always appreciated Dr. Hartung’s practical approach to subjects and learning. He also agreed to do a one-on-one with me for an Independent Study in Artificial Intelligence, which is his specialty. His willingness to do that for an individual student speaks to his passion for teaching and commitment to students.”
“Professor Larry Baker wants his students to learn the course subject matter. He was always willing to provide guidance and took the extra time to give each student constructive feedback. He took his teaching seriously and was very committed to turning around assignments promptly. He also brought his life experiences to the course, which truly enriched the learning.”
“When I reflect on my journey through the M.S. in Accounting Program, Dr. Seiler has been the most influential for me. Despite the numerous red line corrections in my papers, every comment was constructive and appreciated because it challenged me to think critically and perfect my APA citations. With the submission of each paper I could see the growth. The skills I learned, I can take anywhere with me and I thank Dr. Seiler for that.”
CONGRATULATIONS to our
Newest Graduates
Earning a diploma from Franklin University is a significant achievement. While earning their degrees, most Franklin students manage many responsibilities – full-time work, busy family, community commitments – all while enriching their minds and expanding their career options through their studies.
To honor the graduates’ academic successes by the awarding of diplomas, the University conducts Commencement ceremonies three times each year. Ceremonies were held on Sunday, Jan. 12 and Sunday, May 11, at Veterans Memorial Auditorium; and Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. In total nearly 1,500 degree candidates received their diplomas.
All of our graduates deserve
to celebrate this achievement of their academic goals.
Congratulations!
