Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, the first floor of Alumni Hall will be getting an updated look this spring, as construction on a new conference space gets underway.

Director of Alumni Engagement and Development Kevin Greenwood announced that more than 95 percent of the funds required for the construction has been raised.

Greenwood added, “Once again, Franklin alumni have demonstrated their belief in our University’s mission, providing the financial support needed to enhance the learning experience of today’s students. On behalf of all those who will benefit from this new space on campus, ‘thank you’.”

In gratitude for their generosity, the names of those alumni who supported this project with at least a $110 gift will be commemorated on a permanent recognition display leading into the space.

Additionally, this area will be dedicated in honor of alumnus and long-term University Trustee Donald R. Smith (’71), whose significant gift to this project was received posthumously via a bequest from his estate.

“Donald was steadfast in his dedication to his alma mater. Throughout his time as a student and his 32 years of service as a trustee, he worked with intentionality to help the University grow in its mission and scope,” remarked Gary Flynn, fellow alumnus and immediate past board chair. “It is fitting that a place on campus that is dedicated to enhancing communication and engagement with our University and broader community, bear the name, the Donald R. Smith Conference Room.”

The project was conceived in response to the demands of University programming and the popularity of our campus with community members. The new conference space will serve the needs of various Franklin constituents, as well as business and civic organizations throughout central Ohio.

It’s not too late to contribute to this project and add your name to the wall of recognition.
