International Institute Expands Instructional Design Opportunities

Capitalizing on the University’s curriculum design and faculty expertise, Franklin University announced the creation of its International Institute for Innovative Instruction (i4). The Institute physically and intellectually integrates all of Franklin’s design-related functions and design-related academic programs under one roof, adjacent to Main Campus at 236 E. Town St.

By integrating Franklin’s curriculum and faculty design capacities, the University’s unique depth and quality of instructional design resources can be engaged in ways that create the optimal conditions for academic partnerships. This optimization will be accomplished through the expertise of Franklin’s highly experienced and credentialed design professionals, a sophisticated methodology and technological infrastructure and two outstanding academic programs related to the design field, that have combined to make Franklin University an internationally sought after source for curriculum design.

The Institute is directed by Dr. Barbara Fennema, Dean, and Dr. Lou Anne Manning, Executive Director. Under their leadership, i4 employs innovative design practices that solidify its standing in the academic community as a leader in the design of interactive, engaging, learning experiences for diverse learner populations around the world.

Curriculum design requirements of the University’s academic and strategic partners will be supported by the Institute through the use of the latest technology to create optimum learning environments; creation of authentic, relevant, theory-to-practice learning experiences; and development and delivery of media-rich tutorials, workshops, and courses that support effective teaching and learning; as well as assist faculty with assessment using advanced methodologies.

By creating customized curriculum that meets the needs of a diverse population, the Institute will allow Franklin University to continue its advancement in academic research and scholarship in the field of design.

Learning Showcase Illustrates Success, Scholarship and Creativity

The University’s annual Learning Showcase, held on Franklin’s Main Campus in November 2014, was an overwhelming success. The event celebrated the innovative work of students, faculty, alumni, nonprofit, government and community partners throughout Ohio and beyond.

The showcase highlighted research in the areas of Learning, Transformation and Success and gave participants an opportunity for collaborative civic engagement and interdisciplinary learning. Entries were evaluated by a panel of 20 industry judges. Awards were given to outstanding entries in the following categories: Faculty, Industry, Instructional Designer, Student and Staff.

Established in 2013, the Learning Showcase provides the opportunity to illustrate research and best practices in a poster style format.

Sponsors for this year’s event were Manning & Napier, Romanoff Group, Education First Credit Union, Continental Office Environments and Niagara Foundation.
