BATH & SHOWER INSTALLATIONS THE INDUSTRY’S
GREAT EXPECTATIONS: 50 SHADES OF GREIGE
In the ever changing world of interior design, demand is at an all time high for superior quality, and the current international consumer trends continue to
challenge the tiling industry. We get some Insight from Leigh Price, Managing Director of Real Stone and Tile on what to expect from the industry.
The market is forever expanding and for recent years has already seen the Italian manufacturers at the forefront. Customers are more specific about their requirements in order to achieve their perfect home and tilers are now being tasked to seek out new and exciting designs to present to their clients.
Leigh Price has over 20 years experience in the industry and is Managing Director of Real Stone and Tile based in Cheadle, Stockport offers his expert opinion on new and emerging trends to allow you to stay ahead of the game with your clients.
BIGGER IS BETTER Without a doubt, one of the main trends in interior design has been the introduction of large format tiles. The most current and stylistic approach to a project is the inclusion of large format tiles either on the wall or the floor. This new wave gives the user a contemporary look and increases the feeling of space in what tend to be ordinary sized household rooms.
By introducing the large format tile into the project, it allows you to open up the imagination of the user, with an option to flow the tile format from room to room throughout the house, ultimately upselling on the job.
One huge advantage of using large format tiles is the longevity they have for the user and the amount of low maintenance that comes with them. The best large format tiles around are those made from porcelain as opposed to stone, due to the remarkable levels of resistance they hold. Full bodied porcelain tiles are frost resistant and incredibly tough, perfect for household interior or exterior projects.
This highly durable tile comes at a remarkably reasonable price as well which shows not only how much the market is changing but it allows the customer to have the highest quality products at affordable prices.
In terms of maintenance, when laying tiles the only true maintenance is grout, if you can minimise the amount of grout by laying larger tiles then this saves the customer a lot of time and money when it comes to preserving the feature.

Stocked in various sizes, the large format tile gives your client this option. Our largest tile is an impressive 1800x800m, which is perfect for open-plan living and suitable for outdoor and indoor use and provides a continuous look, this trend parallels the growth of consumer demand for bi-fold and sliding doors. Why not open up the minds of your client as well as their rooms by introducing large format tiles to your next consultation.
GREIGE ANATOMY Colour has seen a significant shake up and there is more focus being placed on practical, earthy tones. When you combine the contemporary sophistication of grey with the earthy qualities of beige, you get greige. This warm grey shade is becoming the most sought after inclusion to any home interior project.
Greige works well in any room and especially alongside other colours due to its neutrality. A key advantage is that it provides the perfect base layer to build different room features on top without the worry of colours clashing; it’s a blank canvas almost.
This new colour trend is perfect in its simplicity and goes with everything a client might be thinking to include in their project. The Dune range is becoming very popular with their different variations of greige to satisfy your client’s needs.
