COVER STORY AN

INTEGRATED WETROOM SOLUTION

When it comes to long term success, possible time and cost

savings and versatile design options for wetrooms, Schlüter® recommend an integrated single-source system.

The beauty of the Schlüter®- WETROOM system is that its products have been designed and manufactured to complement each other and take care of installation issues, resulting in a reliable, water- tight finish, which is CE marked and guaranteed to last for years to come.

Head of Sales for Schlüter-Systems Ltd, Lee Rowland says, “With over 10,000 products in our range, finding the right combinations can be tricky. We were asked for ‘off-the-shelf’ kits for our most popular solutions, with all of the necessary products available in a single box, so we listened to our customers and we have now introduced this in the form of our System Solution Kits. We are pleased to say that these are now available to purchase.”

Incorporating the very latest innovations for floor-level access showers and wetrooms, Schlüter®- WETROOM provides a fully integrated system, including top of the range ready-to-tile pre-sloped shower trays, drainage systems and waterproofing membranes for walls and floors.

Another fundamental consideration is moisture management. Poor moisture management can cause leaks leading to damage in the surrounding structure and the potential for mould growth. Systems that don’t evacuate water efficiently can be problematic so it’s important

to opt for waterproof and not just water-resistant materials.

To ensure peace of mind for a fully watertight installation, a waterproof membrane should be used on the floor and walls. For walls, Schlüter®-KERDI-200 provides a CE marked waterproofing membrane for tile and stone coverings, that is easy to install and fully waterproof when sealed with Schlüter®-KERDI-KEBA sealing band and Schlüter®-KERDI- COLL sealing adhesive.

When waterproofing a wall where rigid boards for backing tiles are required, there is a choice between using water-resistant and waterproof backerboards. Water-resistant tile backerboards require an additional waterproofing membrane, either liquid applied or a sheet membrane, prior to tiling. Waterproof backerboards, such as Schlüter®- KERDI-BOARD, however are the better choice, as they have built-in waterproofing properties that won’t require additional waterproofing and only require the board joints to be sealed with a waterproofing sealing tape and suitable sealant adhesive such as Schlüter®-KERDI-KEBA and Schlüter®-KERDI-COLL.

Schlüter®-KERDI-BOARD is lightweight, making it quick and easy to handle and install, it can be easily cut with a utility knife and can even support weight limits of up to 60kg

per square metre. Schlüter®-KERDI- BOARD is also environmentally friendly as it contains no cement or fibreglass reinforcement.

For floors, use uncoupling and waterproofing layer Schlüter®- DITRA 25 to prevent stresses from the substrate being transferred to the surface covering, protect moisture sensitive substrates and neutralise vapour pressure by allowing moisture in the substrate to evaporate.

Schlüter®-DITRA-HEAT-E is a system for electrical under floor and wall heating that creates comfortably warm tile and stone coverings. The heating cables of Schlüter®- DITRA-HEAT-E are installed in the uncoupling mat for targeted heating
