The GreenBuilding Company

The Kerakoll Group’s philosophy is to develop products which cause the least harm possible to the environment and human health, and it has christened this “GreenBuilding”.

An Environmentally Friendly R&D Lab

The construction of the company’s new R&D facility, the GreenLab is in keeping with this philosophy and gives their technicians the best possible environment to continue research into indoor pollution and development of natural alternatives to cement and calculation of the degree of breathability and VOC emissions, as well as the development of products with low environmental impact which will lead to the reduction of CO2 emissions, alongside other themes.

The company is part of a network of scientific collaboration with other researchers throughout Europe and is strengthening already existing ties with some of Italy’s biggest ceramic groups to work on the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for fixing ceramics

in accordance with the new building energy efficiency regulations.

Healthy, Natural Materials & Energy Efficiency

The GreenLab was built using the very best natural materials, selected from those that have the least ecological and health impact. Geothermal heat pumps and the positioning and design of the architecture make the building energy efficient and water is also collected, managed and reused.

An Objective Rating System

As part of the company’s philosophy, Kerakoll’s GreenBuilding Rating is an objective way for professionals involved in the specification process to evaluate the overall ecological and environmental characteristics of a product.

It was developed with well- known research institutions at a European level by a technical committee established by Kerakoll to look into the effects of building materials on the

environment and human health and the regulations and assessment systems connected with those areas.

Certified by SGS

It has been certified as reliable and accurate by SGS, the world’s largest inspection, certification, control and analysis organisation.

Revised in line with the latest knowledge

The Rating is being continuously revised and reviewed to ensure that it encompasses the latest knowledge, techniques and testing methods, ensuring that it stays up to date with the latest environmental thinking.

The criteria are based on existing regulations and methods of measuring environmental damage. One example is the GEV Emicode, where Kerakoll has

undertaken to reach or better EC 1 Plus for all of its products.

Contributing to LEED/ BREEAM

The rating encompasses all of the criteria demanded by the BREEAM and LEED systems that apply to the building chemicals industry including energy use in production, health and well-being of both the operator and the end user, air, water and transport pollution and environmental impact throughout the product’s life cycle. This means that it can be used to support the accreditation of points to the project.
