THE HOTTEST TAPS AND TIPS

Luxury bathroom suppliers Hugo Oliver share their key trends of the year so far and Head of Interior Design, Anna Palmer offers advice on key pieces for a bathroom make over.

With the advent of apps came with it a new era; we can now control our household appliances with the touch of a button. It is now possible to control your shower with your phone or tablet. Bluetooth mirrors can play your favourite music and interesting lighting can be controlled with a touch and remote light switch, thus creating a modern and easily controlled environment.

GREY Different shades of grey, particularly darker shades, and cleverly lit, create a dramatic, boutique hotel feel. Grey is a great colour to team vibrant colours with; dramatic colours are making a come-back, particularly greens and blues.

A grey stone basin is a perfect way to incorporate grey effortlessly into your bathroom and instantly create a new overall theme with minimal change.

TILES Patchwork style inlays including hexagonal, honeycomb and chevron designs are going to be big in 2016. Monochrome tiles also feature highly. Beautiful Fossano tiles give any floor a modern and dynamic look bringing any bathroom up to scratch with current trends. The hexagonal shape provides an air of uniqueness and the recurring theme offers a fantastic base for gorgeous laying solutions.

METALS 2016 is seeing a plethora of metals to choose from: brass, gold, silver, platinum, stainless and brushed steel. From taps, to a new bath panel, there are a number of ways to incorporate metals into your bathroom. A Brushed-Steel-Effect bath panel is a simple and easy way of updating your bathroom to hit the hottest trends.

WALK-IN SHOWERS It’s not how big you can make it but how clever you can be with the space; creating a beautiful space without the need for a door, just a minimalist screen, or nothing at all. Hugo Oliver’s range of walk-in showers and screens can help create the ultimate minimalist wet room and give your bathroom a sleek, contemporary look.

“PATCHWORK STYLE INLAYS INCLUDING

HEXAGONAL, HONEYCOMB

AND CHEVRON DESIGNS ARE

GOING TO BE BIG IN 2016.”

Anna Palmer, Head of Interior Design says: “We’re starting to see real desire for both raw and natural pieces like the grey tones and metal pieces, plus the high-tech, innovative ideas that are beginning to make their way into the bathroom.

We expect that this will lead to a beautiful blend of the two over the next few months, as homeowners and developers start to pay more attention to the importance of having a fashionable bathroom.

As functional as a bathroom needs to be, these trends prove that it can also be the most stylish room in the house, too!”

ANNA’S MUST HAVES As metals are making a bigger resurgence in homes and bathrooms than ever, I have been on the look-out for beautiful metal items that can be used in modern or more traditional settings.

The first ‘must have’ on my list are some copper mosaic tiles, on show in our King’s Cross showroom. The warmth they add is evident and can be used as a feature wall without dominating the room. They are sleek, inviting and have the ability to transform an otherwise bland room. For those who want to make an impact without going over the top, these tiles would suit well: stunning.

To continue on with the metal theme, I would like to showcase an aesthetically pleasing floor mounted bath shower mixer kit, on view in our Charlton showroom. The matt gold version is a gentler version. This in itself is a show piece. It exudes glamour. Beautiful yet understated; a gem or a mixer.
