TOMORROW’S HEALTH & SAFETY AWARDS 2015

CARDIAID AED EVAC+CHAIR INTERNATIONAL

Evac+Chair International, established for over 20 years, are the main UK distributor for the CardiAid Automated External Defibrillators.

The CardiAid AED is a portable device, specifically designed for public access use, providing electroshock treatment, to help restore normal heart rhythm to a patient suffering a heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) within the critical first minutes. The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is easy to use and provides step-by-step instructions to operate the device.

Evac+Chair are constantly working to increase awareness in order for more AED devices to be installed throughout the UK, including a live demonstration of the AED at the Safety & Health Expo held in London in June. Using professional dancers live on stage, a Zumba scene was re-created with a member of the class unexpectedly suffering a SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) and being treated with the CardiAid AED, creating awareness that even the fittest of people can fall victim without warning; therefore highlighting the importance of having an AED on hand.

St John Ambulance appealed to Evac+Chair to help raise money for life saving equipment, initially they raised funds to buy four CardiAid AED’s, Evac+Chair generously increased the total to eight by offering a ‘buy one, get one free’ these devices were installed at various locations across the Midlands.

DOSEBADGE PULSAR INSTRUMENTS

Pulsar Instruments’ doseBadge is a lightweight, cable-free personal noise dosimeter that is ideal for industries where shifts or lone working is involved, such as in construction, entertainment or emergency services.

Rather than having a health and safety officer follow or stay with workers throughout the assessment, each employee can be left to his or her own devices while the doseBadge takes accurate and detailed measurements of noise levels throughout the day.

The doseBadge can be worn on an individual’s shoulder for optimal convenience. It is a self-contained device that has no displays or controls, so that units cannot be easily tampered with or damaged during measurements.

Using infrared communication, the doseBadge is controlled and monitored by a Reader Unit. This unit is used to calibrate, start and stop, download, and store measurements. It also displays all key measurement parameters on a backlit screen, along with a time history graph of a worker’s daily noise exposure.

Worldwide Occupational or Industrial Noise Regulations require the typical daily exposure of an individual worker to be determined. The Pulsar noise doseBadge automatically achieves this by computing the Daily Exposure for European legislation or the Time Weighted Average for US based legislation.
