CLEANING & HYGIENE
BANISH BAD ODOURS Zybax explains why chemicals aren’t the only way to clean effectively.
Commercial success can depend on a clean and pleasant environment. Lingering odours can make life difficult for your employees and downright unpleasant for your customers. What’s more, failure to remove bad odours can be off-putting for visitors and have a negative impact on the reputation of a business, its productivity and profit.
The good news is that stubborn and persistent odours can be eliminated. What’s more, if you thought chemicals were the only way to clean effectively, think again. New developments in eco-cleaning products mean that eco-cleaners can now be as good - if not better at cleaning - than chemical cleaners because eco-cleaners remove dirt in a different way.
Specially developed to be just as tough on grease, dirt and stubborn soiling. Eco-cleaning products still clean and remove dirt deposits, but these new eco-cleaners use ‘friendly bacteria’ to break down the organic waste efficiently, safely and naturally. In every millilitre of cleaning solution, you’ll find millions of tiny ‘good
26
bacteria’ that begin multiplying and releasing enzymes - quickly getting to work eating and destroying the biological waste and removing the source of the dirt and odour.
With several different formulas available it’s still possible to clean a variety of surfaces. There are low water foam products to eliminate odours from carpets, upholstery and curtains; trigger spray and pressure spray formulas; and those that can be used with mops and cloths on washrooms, doors and walls. Eco-cleaners can also be used to clean toilets and urinals.
Sometimes regular cleaning just isn’t enough to remove really strong smells that linger. Offensive odours can be one of the most difficult areas to manage and control: what is offensive to one person may not be offensive to another due to variation in people’s sensitivity. However, it is important to undertake good working practices and an understanding that workplace odours are unacceptable and treatable. Studies of communities exposed to unwanted germs and odours show that
exposure can lead to stress-induced symptoms such as sleep disorders, headaches, respiratory problems, nausea, anxiety and sickness.
Friendly bacteria, used in eco- cleaning solutions with technology, can alter any air-borne odour molecules so that they no longer cause a smell. Chemical cleaners such as bleach cannot remove the source of the odour, often relying on chemical air fresheners to try to mask the smell. Instead, by ecologically removing the source of the smell rather than masking it, eco-cleaners can be highly effective against a huge variety of odours ranging from urine, cigarette smoke, refuse to faeces, vomit and sour milk.
Health, safety and welfare are basic requirements at work. From now on, armed with this knowledge you’ll be better informed and equipped to promote cleanliness and banish bad odour - the perfect match for any commercial housekeeping policy.
