WHAT’S NEW? TRANSFORMATIVE TECHNOLOGY

FOR HEALTHCARE ESTATES Investment in healthcare is typically subject to high levels of scrutiny, none more so than within the NHS. It is generally accepted that funding designated to public sector must extract maximum value wherever possible and estates are expected to demonstrate how they go about this, often in a meticulous way.

The Carter Review, published last year, identified a number of issues that needed tackling if the NHS wants to make significant savings. Tellingly, the report demonstrated the need for real-time monitoring solutions that assist both staff and facilities managers when going about their day-to-day work.

Considering the sheer amount of floor space that healthcare occupies around the world, coupled with the financial and health and safety demands that are intrinsically tied to it, the need for low-risk solutions for optimising management and service delivery is clear. So what can be done?

It’s this question that provides the rationale for Service Works Group’s (SWG) latest white paper. Titled ‘Optimisation of Healthcare Estates Through Technology’, the document explores how digitisation is at the heart of promoting patient-centric healthcare. Using the latest developments in technology, and case studies from SWG’s portfolio, the paper also demonstrates how facilities management software is best placed to ensure large estates make the most of their assets and help current infrastructure keep pace with the demands of delivering advanced healthcare in the 21st century.

SEARCH ACUMEN LAUNCH

FULLY-INTEGRATED DATA PLATFORM Search Acumen, the property search provider, has launched an online platform specifically dedicated to commercial property transactions. Designed to transform the due diligence process by providing real estate lawyers with instant access to commercial property data sets, it also offers the ability to conduct and manage a portfolio of property searches in one place.

The platform is the commercial market’s first integrated system that streamlines free access to data and information a real estate lawyer needs to reference when carrying out due diligence on a commercial property transaction. It has been designed in close consultation with some of the UK’s top commercial property law firms.

The site uses the most up-to-date data from official sources such as Land Registry’s National Polygon dataset, Ordnance Survey and the Environment Agency. The data provides real time details free of charge on issues such as flooding, conservation areas, listed buildings and official registers and charges prior to ordering searches.

Gary Watkins, CEO of Service Works Group, said: “This new white paper demonstrates the power of workplace technology and how it can progress the management of complex estates. FM software provides healthcare estates personnel with immediate access to business critical information, in turn helping organisations to operate better and improve patient comfort and satisfaction – which is the bottom line for anyone working in this sector.”

Through the platform, real estate lawyers and conveyancers are able to locate all relevant titles – including information such as the title number and whether it is freehold or leasehold – and identify any unregistered land. The titles are colour coded and the system allows users to easily click through to instantly extract the desired searches from Land Registry.

It also incorporates additional data layers, which can be fully customised depending on a firms’ transaction preferences. For example, geo-specific layers allow users to identify the tracks of the London Underground, local stations or use Highways data to identify the road adoption status. The commercial tool also integrates with Google Maps to identify local authority boundaries and allows users to view properties and titles from both a satellite and street perspective.

Andrew Lloyd, Managing Director at Search Acumen, commented: “Our new platform is an exciting and revolutionary step forward in filling a gap in the market for commercial transactions. We have worked with top commercial firms to ensure this fits with their needs and to blow away the cobwebs of legacy systems by finally bringing the process of accessing commercial property data into the 21st century.”
