WASHROOMS IRON OUT
INEFFICIENCY Facilities managers can improve
their cleaning efficiency and their cleaners’ working lives in one fell swoop by installing Tork EasyCubeTM in their washrooms, says Tork Brand Communications Manager Amelia Baker.
Tork EasyCube is a system that “connects” washrooms to the internet, enabling staff to check remotely whether dispensers for soap, toilet tissue and hand towels need refilling.
The system also incorporates sensors on washroom cubicle doors so that toilet visits can be logged and the re- ordering of supplies can be planned more efficiently.

LANDVETTER AIRPORT Tork EasyCube is already improving staff working
conditions at Gothenburg’s Landvetter Airport in Sweden, according to Ann-Catrine Gobbato Henningsson, Facility Manager of Swedavia, which runs the airport.
“Giving cleaning staff more control over their work reduces their stress levels and helps to make their job feel more meaningful,” she said. “It means staff can spend time cleaning where it is actually needed.”
Tork EasyCube has also had a positive effect on cleaners’ working lives at Furuvik zoo and amusement park in Sweden according to cleaning team leader Elvira Ivarsson. “With Tork EasyCube, you know you’re in control,” she said. “It has been great for team spirit.”
Cleaners check via their smartphone or tablet when refills of soap and paper are running low, which means they no longer need to spend valuable time walking to and from each washroom to physically check the status of dispensers; the time they save can then be spent on other, more important cleaning tasks.
Tork EasyCube can be tailored to suit individual businesses and has a messaging function that provides a highly effective way of communicating. This allows cleaning teams to stay in contact with their managers and each other, even when spread out over large distances.
The product has been rolled out in various types of facility including theme parks, zoos, sports centres and airports. It is particularly suitable for large venues where several washrooms are spread out over a wide geographical area.
According to feedback from facilities where it has been installed, Tork EasyCube can help to increase job satisfaction by making the task of cleaning more rewarding and less repetitive.
From a sustainability point of view it is important for FMs to improve the working lives of staff while from a practical viewpoint, happier staff are more likely to stay longer in the job. This can save a great deal of time and money on recruiting new staff.
