EDITOR’S VOICE EDITOR’S VOICE
For our supplement this year we once again return to the world of technology. With CAFM systems and app-led software gradually infiltrating every aspect of our working lives, it is hard to deny the importance of machinery in our work schedules. Last year we covered the rise of IoT in cleaning and washrooms, changes to legislation regarding BIM and fleet management applications for the mobile workforce, so let’s see what 2017 has to offer...
One of the most notable changes in technology is the unstoppable progress of in Biometrics in security and access control. Software that was once part of a farfetched storyline in one of James Bond’s escapades, is now used to open and close gates in passport control centres across the globe.
And on the subject of movie plots, the rise of robotics in cleaning, retail and hospitality is spectacular – I can’t remember the last time I checked into a hotel or airline with the help of a human being, I even scan my own shopping at the supermarket – we’ll be exploring this further.
So without further ado, I present our Technology Supplement 2017, I hope it offers you something insightful, to help with your everyday working lives; I wonder how much we will have advanced by the time we produce next year’s supplement!
