FRONT OF HOUSE
Facilities management staff at schools, colleges and universities are now operating in a very different way to front of house and security staff in traditional locations such as shopping centres, office buildings and industrial settings.
SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIES We work in partnership with a range
of education providers including Wigan & Leigh College, Manchester Metropolitan University, the Education Funding Authority and City Lit College in London to keep students safe on campuses but also to provide secondary information, guidance and resource optimisation functions.
Oltec FM’s integrated security and front of house teams provide an innovative, new concierge service assisting with the safe movement of students and visitors around the sites.
EDUCATING FOR
example, while exerting their prime presence in crime-deterrence and law-enforcement, find many more avenues to express their range of abilities. Receptionists or secretaries, while managing front of house services, can also be effective at providing other services.
We have re-examined the customary role of our security personnel to surprising effect and have found that by carefully analysing the customer’s specific role requirements and matching with the employee’s wider capabilities with our carefully designed expert training, significant operating efficiencies can be achieved from multi-tasking.
The educational sector, as an example, has a long tradition of administration-based front of house staff, however the increasing integration and rise of multi-skilling has led to a demand for a new type of facilities management combining security and front of house roles.

DUAL PURPOSE The officers work smart to undertake a range of duties specifically tailored to education customers’ needs, including security, customer services, event and open day support, as well as providing a reassuringly strong visual presence at the main entrance to help students and members of the public confidently navigate the buildings. They utilise numerous electronic solutions to assist them with their duties.
Through continual training from experts in the field and a consistent commitment to upskilling, we are able to develop an integrated service that is best for customers’ requirements both logistically and financially. Staff are equipped with the required skills and knowledge to offer a dual benefit, ensuring the safety of all concerned and responding to any emergencies that arise, whilst also facilitating the quick and safe movement of people and goods around the premises.
All Oltec FM security staff are fully DBS checked and are trained to work specifically with children and young people, as well as with adults and visitors to the sites.
SMART SECURITY We believe that this new model points
the way to significant cost-savings throughout the education sector and beyond. The presumption that a physical security presence can only be provided by staff with one- dimensional attributes is outmoded. The future lies in the selection and training of high-quality personnel who can engage with the facilities management teams at other symbiotic levels, integrating with the whole cross-section of people who may use the facility; staff, employees, visitors and the public at large.
“WHEN NOT BEHIND THE WHEEL, A TRUCK DRIVER MIGHT ALSO BE AN ELOQUENT, PARTICIPATING
AMBASSADOR FOR
HIS OR HER FAVOURITE SPORT OR HOBBY.”
Being constantly alert to the security aspects of their function does not preclude our operatives from exercising their inter-personal, social and knowledge-based skills. By so- doing, they obviate the need to employ staff with overlapping skills. The savings and benefits can be significant.
