Nutrition has always been a box ticking exercise, but it shouldn’t be. It must be at the heart of food service in the workplace and all too frequently caterers and FMs simply pay it lip service. Far too often it’s not delivered effectively at all, which makes it meaningless to the end user.

Nutrition and basic food quality surely shouldn’t be compromised just because rising costs are limiting the space available for food preparation. Facilities managers and their clients have to accept that nutritious food is now a critical element of the workplace. What’s


more the expectations of employees have gone way beyond what might look acceptable commercially. That means caterers must work more closely with FMs and devise a food solution alongside the client’s HR team, so it is right for the workforce and their habits.
