ALARMS IN CARE HOMES Fire industry leader Advanced has released a new document that shows the potential of automatic fire systems to help reduce false alarms in care home and social care settings.

There is growing awareness of the role that care home staff can play in helping to reduce unwanted false alarms. Advanced’s intelligent, loop- powered alarm acknowledgement device, the AlarmCalm Button, can be used to manually verify if an alarm signal is false.

Taking place on the 25th and 26th


January at the Radisson Blu Hotel, London Stansted; the event brought the industry together to discuss relevant business solutions through a series of face-to-face meetings.


The document outlines the features of Advanced’s AlarmCalm FAM upgrade and its key components, as well as providing an overview of the areas within care homes where different false alarm strategies may be required, based on risk, building design and resident needs.


AlarmCalm is a total package and features enhanced firmware, comprehensive configuration software for Advanced’s fire systems and new intelligent alarm acknowledgement devices called AlarmCalm Buttons. It provides total, easily-managed control over alarm verification periods and investigation delays to outputs.

The event is well-attended by some of the biggest household names including The View From The Shard, Links of London, Pizza Hut Restaurants, Nandos, Virgin Holidays and many more.


Suppliers attending the event included people from M&E, security, catering, total facilities management, cleaning, energy management, amongst many others. This year they hosted the likes of Mitie Facilities Management, Salisbury Group, Ocean Integrated Services, Iron Mountain and LCC Support Services, alongside many others.

AlarmCalm Buttons are easy to install on the loop and recognised in the panel software on auto learn. They are compatible with a standard UK single-gang back box.

The day was then finished off with choice of two seminars; the first presented by Rachel Dick, Senior FM Consultant at Mace Macro shedding light on the type of data and information business require to make informed critical decisions, the second presented by Johnny Dunford, Director of Corporate Real Estate at BNP Paribas.
