10 QUESTIONS WITH... JOHN FATHERS

Each month we ask an industry professional the Tomorrow’s FM 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to John Fathers, CEO of Green World Innovations Ltd.

Q4 Q5 Q1

What was your first job?

My father had a cleaning company so he showed me the ropes from a pretty young age, I worked with him as my first job.

Q2 Q3

How did you get into the Facilities

Management industry?

Following in my Dad’s footsteps I started my own cleaning company; working in, and supplying to the FM industry. I’ve continued to work in this industry ever since.

Who, in any other industry, do you

most admire?

A guy who I really admire for his dedication and forward-thinking is the Great British cycling team coach, Dave Brailsford. He’s a very clever guy and has achieved great things in his career through hard work and determination.

If money was no object, what car

would you buy?

At Green World, we try to be as ‘green’ as we can ourselves, even outside of the office, which is why I’d go for Tesla luxury electric car.

How would you improve the Facilities

Management industry?

My number one goal for this industry is to completely get rid of chemicals in commercial cleaning. I think it’s a really important aim, and is something we are working toward at Green World.

Q6

What did you want to be when you

were growing up?

I wanted to be a professional sportsman, particularly a rugby player, although it wasn’t common to play as a professional in the sport then. To be honest, I’d have been happy being professional in any sport, it’s great to be outdoors and keep fit.

Q7 Q8

What do you do to unwind?

My spare time is usually spent playing

golf, or I go on holiday, although where possible I will do both at the same time!

If you could host a dinner party with any

three guests, dead or alive, with a fourth cooking and a fifth providing the music, who

would they be and why? I would definitely choose Jamie Oliver to do the cooking, he cooks my type

Q9

What do you think is the future of

the Facilities Management

industry? I think it will be done by fewer companies – I see the industry consolidating like the supermarket industry; a few big players will drive the industry. My hope is that it will also get cleaner and greener over time.

Q10

Simon Esner, Director,

BaxterStorey asked: ‘’If you could travel anywhere in the

world, where would it be?’’ I have travelled a lot, but I would always go back to Port Navas in Cornwall. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world; I would really recommend a visit there, especially if you’re thinking of holidaying in the UK!

of food and he’s good fun. I think it would have to be Adele for the music; she’s amazing plus she has a great personality and sense of humour. The other guests would be; Martin Johnson, Clive Woodward and Johnny Wilkinson. I’d talk to them about their life and knowledge about rugby, I recon I could maybe teach them a thing or two.
