Quarterly supervison meetings, as well as annual appraisals, provide our workforce with the opportunity to discuss training requirements to further their knowledge and development in the healthcare sector. Nurse Plus’ support also extends outside of the workforce, where we take an holistic approach to our training. Our service users’ family and friends are invited to attend training days so they too can also feel confident in caring for their loved ones in a safe and effective way. This also reiterates the role of their Nurse Plus carer. Many family members have complimented this aspect of our training programme, especially if they have unexpectedly become the primary carer for an individual.
My opinion, one which is very much embedded into the ethos of Nurse Plus, is that training should not be considered as a mandatory must do exercise, which an employee doesn’t re-visit for a whole year. Training is part of an individual’s growth and development within an organisation; it is an on-going need. By providing a supportive and friendly environment, an employee should feel confident to request further training, whether that relates to their ability to do their job well, or to take their career to the next level.
This is why we have a great staff team and our retention of staff is one of the best in the sector; which is something I am very proud of.
