Six main standard bedroom designs were therefore created and two bedroom suite schemes. Each of the three floors also has its own pharmacy which features consistent colour, seating and signage.


NHG created specialist signage throughout the centre to help residents clearly and easily identify the room’s purpose. Furniture design was another essential aspect for the design team.


When selecting the furniture the NHG team specified items that had been specifically designed to help people with dementia feel more relaxed and at home. For example, all of the chairs feature contrast piping so that residents can clearly define the shape and see the edges. This helpful, visual impact enables residents to feel more independent. Furthermore the flooring contrasts with the furniture to allow patients to easily identify between the two.


The design scheme includes several modifications in bedrooms that accommodate residents with dementia. This includes specially made curtains, which feature a plain leading edge making it easier for residents to open and close the curtains as they can see the central meeting point.


Making life more interesting and rewarding is a key principal of good care home design, which is why the team introduced a fully functional curiosity-themed sweet shop.


The design also includes nostalgic and interchangeable shop fronts, which are a key feature of a specially designed ‘memory lane’ street scene. Located in the basement, the ‘memory lane’ includes cobble effect carpeted edging. Features such as this, which relate to residents’ memories, are an excellent way to help individuals feel more at ease. They can be used to help residents find their own space and familiarise themselves with their environment


Finding a reliable and safe hoisting system is paramount as it forms a

critical aspect of providing the best possible patient care. However, specifying a comprehensive track system that supports effective, safe and quality care can often be a challenge.


Marking a significant advancement in the safety of patient handing, NHG was able to install their advanced Combi- gate ceiling track hoist gate which can be used with a room covering (XY) ceiling hoist system when connecting to secondary systems.


Finally, as part of their integrated offer, NHG provided Cedar View with a host of care consumables including nursing and medical supplies, catering, housekeeping, cleaning and hygiene products. Eliminating the manual paper work involved in purchasing and paying invoices, Cedar View is able to benefit from NHG Touch – a free, purpose built online ordering service.


With stringent access right and restrictions built-in, the system includes a tailored authorisation process to offer LR-Homes greater visibility and help simplify the purchasing process. For improved auditability, LR-Homes can also benefit from detailed reporting, enabling extensive analysis to inform strategic buying.


The Finished Article The centre is made up of residential care, on the Ground Floor (20 beds), nursing and dementia care, on the First Floor (23 beds) and dementia and palliative care, on the Second Floor (22 beds).


Each floor has a lounge, dining area and single modern and contemporary en-suite bedrooms as well as suites with kitchenette facilities. For the home away from home experience there is also a Library, Bar, Bistro, Hair and Beauty Salon and a Luxury Home Cinema and Sweet shop for resident’s participation.
