TECHNOLOGY

The other thing that we did at ISSA was a survey on user satisfaction – we did one at the Tork Easycube washroom, one male and one female, and we did an identical survey at the non-Tork Easycube washroom over the same period and the result was actually a lot better than we thought it was going to be – there was a staggering difference where the Tork Easycube washroom scored 30% higher in visitor satisfaction of the washroom experience.

TC: Over the past year or so we’ve seen the introduction of a lot of new technology and online systems across the industry, but SCA seem to be standing alone in the washroom sector with the Easycube. In that respect, do you see yourselves as innovators?

AKK: In this industry, we’re probably innovators, but in a broader perspective, we could see that there were lots of other companies working with sensor technology, and you can see that this digitalisation has totally disrupted some industries that will never be the same

again. But in the cleaning industry, we are really quite early and probably one of the first ones to really find a system that works and that changes the way of working for cleaning companies, based on a new technology and service.

I would expect quite a lot of companies to be coming after us as well, and we hear the rumours, but if you look at the value that can be provided to the customers then I don’t blame them, either!

TC: It’s become something of a buzzword for the industry, but the ‘Internet of Things’ is something that has really taken off in the cleaning world of late. Do you see this concept of everything being connected and accessible online as the future of the industry?

AKK: Personally, I really do think these systems are the future of the industry. I think we can see that it’s still very ‘analogue’ work in many respects, so there’s so much value to be provided both from an efficiency point of view, and I think from a

quality point of view, to improve the washroom experience, which we know is really important, but also for the whole cleaning industry, and all the people who are working in it to improve their everyday working situation.

TC: Finally, you mentioned earlier that Tork Solutions is primarily focussed around the Tork Easycube at the moment – are there plans to launch new services and aspects as part of Tork Solutions?

AKK: We’re constantly upgrading our service; we work with programmers in an agile development way, so we upgrade it on a bi-weekly basis, so we will be coming with more offers in the future because we see that at SCA, this is definitely the area to be in to be successful in the long term.
