Manual Mode: For Ad Hoc Jobs This mode provides the normal productivity and flexibility of a stand-on scrubber dryer, allowing the user to manually clean as and when required.
REAL CHANGE It is clear that the Horizon program is much more than a new range of products. With this unique project Nilfisk have set the course for the long term, strategic introduction of autonomous equipment that will completely redefine how customers calculate productivity and the total cost of ownership.
The scrubber dryer uses advanced mapping technology to recognise the environment and determine the optimal cleaning route. Collision avoidance and cleaning precision is secured with a combination of sensors, and patented cameras allow for precise and consistent operation. The machine sensors can recognise any object – be it people, obstacles and drop offs – then on detection the scrubber will wait for the obstacle to move or determine an alternative route without any human interaction.
Once the machine has finished cleaning, a notification will be sent to the user that the task is completed via a remote user device, which will communicate the current status of the machine. The device also alerts the user of any issues allowing the operator to pause or stop the machine remotely.
The robust perception system therefore allows safe operation within multiple unstructured environments. The self-learning scrubber dryer features a simple intuitive interface that is very user friendly. All models provide three main modes;
CopyCat Mode™: Replication Perfection With just one single manual clean the machine learns exactly how the operator wishes to clean the area in question. Future cleaning passes therefore replicate the original run whilst adapting to any new obstacles.
If the sensor detects a new object within the replicated area, the machine will stop and wait for the obstacle to move. If no movement is detected the unit will calculate the best route around whilst maintaining optimal cleaning performance.
Fill-In Mode: For A Fast Start This mode is the fastest way to get going with autonomous cleaning. There is no need for special mapping or programming, the operator simply outlines the area to be cleaned. The machine then utilises an advanced algorithm to work out the best, most efficient way to independently clean the specified area.
Once again the scrubber dryer utilises the advanced perception system to detect and avoid obstacles including people.

The technology means that repetitive tasks can be performed with consistent performance without the need for training. Additionally staff time that was previously spent manually operating a scrubbing machine can be re-allocated across the facility. As with all ground breaking innovations the industry will be left wondering just why it was not like this before.
The first Horizon autonomous scrubber dryer will be officially launched in the spring of 2017. Prior to the launch live demonstrations will be carried out at various events including The Cleaning Show, London in March 2017.
