MILITARY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND DEDICATION RECOGNISED BY THE WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANERS
Whether taking the lead in training environmental health recruits, having a hands-on approach to helping rebuild communities following the Nepal earthquake, or showing the tenacity to persevere in the face of adversity, military personnel and cadets consistently demonstrate high levels of skill, knowledge and dedication whatever challenges they face.
In recognition of these attributes, and to show its admiration for their work, the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners holds an Annual Military Awards Ceremony, the latest of which took place in September at Trinity House, London.
Philip Morrish, Master of the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners, said: “To be able to make these presentations is an honour and a privilege. These ceremonies can never fail to fill one with an enormous sense of pride at the association we have with the Royal Army Medical Corps, the RAF Environmental Health Cadre, and our three affiliated Cadet Units.
“Although we are only able to recognise this select number of people today, I sincerely hope that our gratitude and congratulations are expressed to everyone in these units for their continuing dedication in all that they do.”
Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Ward, who has been in the army reserves for 42 years and was collecting the second Environmental Cleaners’ award of his career, said: “[winning the award] was a tremendous honour. I think it’s fantastic that the Environmental Cleaners do these awards. I think it’s fantastic that the reserves are also respected as part of the army; it is one army. Long may the awards continue.”
Captain Daniel Wilkins, who won the RAMC Post Graduate Medical Officer’s General Practice Award, said: “I won this award for getting the highest marks on the course, but really this award is for everyone who has gone through the training, I’m sharing it with them.”
The Environmental Cleaners is proud to support education and training as part of its mission to maintain high standards of practice and integrity within the cleaning industry.

• Cadet Flight Sergeant Robert Wall – Best Air Training Corps Cadet – 50F (Lambeth) Squadron
Each cadet was recognised for their accomplishments within their units, their leadership skills, their achievements in recent examinations, as well as the different events for which they had been chosen to represent their units.
Supporting The Services
As part of the WCEC’s annual financial support to its affiliates, cheques were presented to Brigadier Paul Cain – Senior Health Adviser British Army; Lt (SCC) Bill Collier RMR, Officer in Command, T.S. Narvik; Lieutenant Colonel Des Smith, Commandant SELACF (Greater London South East Sector Army Cadet Force); and Wing Commander Colin Gale, Officer Commanding, London Wing ATC at the end of the ceremony.
