RESIDENTS aged over 80 can get extra money to help heat their homes this winter. Glasgow City Council’s


Affordable Warmth Dividend is worth £100. You can receive the


payment if you are 80 years of age or over by 31 March 2017 and live in Glasgow. If you are not yet 80, but will be before 31 March 2017, you can still apply now. Visit the council’s website www.glasgow.gov.uk/

HOUSANDS of older and vulnerable tenants are getting help to stay warm


and cosy over the winter. We’re carrying out winter home checks for tenants who are over 60 or disabled to make sure their homes are geared up for the cold weather.


The checks – which are part


of GHA’s WinterReady campaign - mean less risk of burst pipes and will help to cut fuel bills too. Our free winter home check is quick and easy to carry out. A plumber will visit the tenant at home to check the heating system is working properly, pipes are protected against the cold and the home has


Protect yourself at home


MAKE sure you stay safe this winter by following this simple advice.


• Check dripping taps and overflows to prevent freezing of waste pipes and flooding.


• Make sure you’ve had your annual gas service. It will ensure your heating system is working effectively.


• If you’re not going to be at home for a period of time,


set your heating to come on for a couple of hours a day – and leave a key with a friend or neighbour.


• Check your smoke alarms are working. Replace batteries if necessary.


• Consider fitting a heat alarm in your kitchen to warn you of a cooking fire.


• If you’ve been drinking alcohol, don’t cook.
