Chitty Chitty is in the city
THERE are lots of free activities to keep you busy over the festive season in Glasgow. There’s a treat for movie fans with one of the original cars used in the Disney family classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on display at Riverside Museum. Check it out until early 2017. You can also curl up with a cuppa and your favourite book, magazine or song courtesy of Glasgow Libraries.

New care course guarantees job interview “My placement was with Loretto Care’s
E’RE giving people a helping hand into a career in care. A three-week course called
Introduction to Care prepares people for a career in the sector by helping them improve their knowledge and get on-the- job experience. Everyone who completes the course is guaranteed a job interview with Loretto Care. The course covers training including first aid and dementia awareness, and help writing a CV. People also get a two-week
work placement to help them decide if working in care is for them.
The course is one of the first initiatives
A library card lets you access 3 million books from the city’s 33 libraries, as well 9,000 e-books and magazines. Libraries also have more than 600 free computers for you to use – and all also offer free public access wifi. For more information, visit

from the Wheatley Foundation, Wheatley’s new charitable foundation which funds a range of programmes to help people in our communities lead better lives. GHA tenant Susan Cairns, 49, from
Greenfield, took part in the course. She said: “I loved the course. It was
wonderful, extremely useful. “I’d been out of work and my confidence
was low – I didn’t even have a CV – and my housing officer told me about the course. “The course made me feel I was worth something.
“A great way to test out the care sector to see if it’s for you”
young people’s homelessness service in Stirling. It was fantastic to see how much staff there really care about their job. “The course wasn’t too intense and
wasn’t too scary. I was worried they might prefer someone younger, but age is definitely no barrier. “I’d like to work in a children’s home and this really helped me get a foot on the ladder.” Wheatley Foundation’s
Lorraine McLaren said: “We always want to increase opportunities for people in our communities, and the Introduction to Care course is
a great way for people to test out the care sector and see if it’s for them. “Everyone who takes part is guaranteed an interview – so it’s a good chance for people to get a helping hand into work.” You don’t need any experience to get on the course – just bags of enthusiasm and a passion for working in care.
