about their garden W
E’RE helping youngsters in the south of the city build
wildlife gardens. Pupils at primary and nursery schools across the south will learn about growing fruit and veg and healthy eating, while enjoying the fresh air and getting some exercise. The gardens, which will also feature wildlife trails, are supported by GHA’s South Area Committee.
The primary schools involved include Darnley, St Conval’s in Pollokshaws, Castleton in Castlemilk, Pirie Park in Govan, St George’s in Penilee and St Marnock’s in Pollok, as well as Eastwood Nursery and Linthaugh Nursery in Crookston.
Meanwhile, youngsters at Mosspark Primary have created a wildlife garden – including a special home for insects called the ‘Bug Hoose’. Our South Area Committee is helping out by building a fence round the garden to keep the children – and the wildlife – safe.
Elsewhere in the city, steps, slabs and fencing around a row of shops in Glenkirk Drive, Drumchapel, were upgraded after funding from the North West Area Committee.

Committee is helping fund sessions at Temple Shafton Youth Project in Netherton Road. Sessions are fun as
well as educational, and help us tackle anti-social behaviour and reduce crime in the area. For details, phone 950 1739.
Connected in North West
TENANTS across the North West can get help to use computers and get online. The ‘Get Connected’
project, supported by the North West Area Committee, runs classes in Kingsway, Linkes in Knightswood, and Milton. Classes can help tenants use the internet to pay their rent, apply for jobs and make claims for Universal Credit. If you’re interested, talk to your housing officer.

BIG DIFFERENCE: The community garden at Kirkton Avenue, top, Soutra Place and Tarfside Gardens are looking good
And tenants in Knightswood
are enjoying the great outdoors in Kirkton Avenue. Green space there was
transformed into a community garden to commemorate the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Homes in Tarfside Gardens,
Cardonald, are looking fantastic after the South Area Committee helped fund improvements to the area. Tenants benefited from upgraded back courts and
improved fencing and paving areas at the front. Similar improvements to
Tarfside Oval will start shortly. The area around the Soutra Place high rises in Cranhill is looking much better after the North East Area Committee funded improvements to the area. Work was done to improve the landscaping, upgrade the bin stores and install new bollards.
Higher help at St Roch’s
A NEW homework club in Royston is helping school kids taking their Highers. The club meets at
St Roch’s FC ground in Royston Road on Tuesdays and Thursdays, where tutors from Glasgow Uni help the young people with Maths and Physics. GHA helped fund two
iPads and a broadband connection. For more details, phone 07513 231 176.
