Product News Q&A WOODBERRY WITH
What should be considered when purchasing outdoor furniture to maximise outdoor space; particularly small or awkwardly laid out areas?...
Zoning is key – even in small spaces. Inside the pub there will be particular zones that have either naturally materialised through customer self-selection or the team have put in place to divide the drinkers from the diners. Actively do the same outside. Our “Best for Drinking” high poseur tables are great for high density areas and can naturally zone your drinkers (and smokers); whereas sit down tables and chairs set up with menus and cruets will most certainly attract your diners.
There’s a lot of “one cap fits all” outdoor furniture available to the industry eg standard sizes on A-Frames. Can you highlight any furniture specifically designed for children, older customers or disabled customers that will make a pub garden more enticing? ...
In 2017 we conducted a piece of research to find out what people want from their outdoor furniture; this included the pub teams too. The output was 3 pieces of furniture, 2 of which were specifically designed with children, families, older and disabled customers in mind.
One piece has been launched; The Family Hex. A hexagonal table with a central leg and matching arm chairs, suitable for strap on highchairs. The table design means that no one gets a leg when seated, the height is perfect for wheelchair users, the chairs can be pulled up to the table and less able people can feel comfortable and safe in an arm chair with a back.
The other piece is about to be launched and comes with a set of accessories.

Our research told us that this is massive! It’s a case of “Inside- Out”. Not only are sites now striving for that leisure pound, fighting against home cinema, cheaper supermarket food and drink and the rise of take away but in the summer, they now contend with people preferring to stay at home and BBQ.
Therefore, hospitality has to give their customers a better experience than they would have at home. 88% of people told us that outdoor furniture influences their choice of venue. You simply cannot afford to let your standards drop outdoors.
The British weather will determine how often outdoors can be utilised, so what can pubs do to ensure their furniture stays in prime condition?...
Simple annual maintenance in the Spring (now!) – we sell some great re-treatment kits for all types of furniture, from wood to rattan. And of course weather covers are a great help in the winter.
