Kir, that famous French aperitif, created by mingling white wine with blackcurrant liqueur, has a long tradition dating back to 1841 when Crème de Cassis was first created.
Named after a former Mayor of Dijon, Félix Kir (1876–1968), it became a particularly popular and celebrated international cocktail when Mr Kir proffered it at receptions to visiting overseas delegations and has since been known as the ‘Kir’. Due to its colour,
the cocktail is said to have compensated for a lack of red wine during World War II.
Now the Kir has been reinvigorated by the addition of the ‘gin like no other’, Brockmans Gin. The new incarnation of this classic – the Brockmans Gin Kir -

includes white wine and liqueur but with the addition of Brockmans, whose 11 complex botanicals include blueberry and blackberry notes, which blend seamlessly with the blackcurrant. This British- produced gin is doing what it can to maintain the Entente Cordiale.
Method: Ingredients:
• 50ml Brockmans Gin • 15ml White Wine • 50ml Crème de Cassis • 1 Blueberry • 1 Grape • 1 Skewer
Add ice to a shaker. Pour in all the ingredients and stir until chilled. Strain into a flute glass.
