Upton had its big Spring Clean on 9th April. With a great turnout of 30 citizens (which included ten guides and their leaders, our local MP Michael Tomlinson and three councillors) and a lovely sunny day, we divided into a number of groups and came back with 22 bags of rubbish. Mr Tomlinson presented a certifi cate from Upton in Bloom to the 1st Upton Guides in recognition of their efforts over the years to make Upton look beautiful. Well done the Guides! Generally we found the area in good shape, but there were signs of fl y tipping which will be reported. Keep Upton Tidy would like to thank our representatives, the Guides and all of those of our community, who made this effort so successful.
Upton In Bloom Horticultural Show 2017
The Horticultural Show will take place on Saturday 19th August – two weeks earlier than normal. The schedule containing the class details should be available by early May from the usual outlets: Council offi ces, Post Offi ce, Library, Central Café, Upton Hardware, The Barn Tea rooms and Costa.
Photographic enthusiasts might like to know that the three classes this year will be:
• Wildlife • Lytchett Bay View or Birds of Lytchett Bay View • Upton Flowers
Artists: as a change from animal portrait, we are introducing a still life section.
One further trophy has been generously added to the list. This is thanks to Bob Hewitt in memory of his late wife Kath Hewitt. This trophy will be awarded to the Show Champion Runner-up.

Guides receive recognition for helping Keep Upton Tidy and Upton in Bloom
As well as our association with the Dorset Wildlife Trust and Upton In Bloom, we are delighted to confi rm an additional associated group, Dorset Dogs, which promotes responsible dog ownership and has many dog owner members who join litter picks and support the ‘Doggy Do’ Code. We will be sharing information with them and supporting them in their continuing campaign to stop dog fouling.
The next meeting of the Keep Upton Tidy Group will be at 6pm on Wednesday 31st May at Turbary Court, Douglas Close. We are always delighted to see new faces, even as a one-off to see what we do or bring up a litter concern. Meanwhile, thanks to all those who have been looking after their areas or making sure litter gets to a bin.
Finally we would ask residents to be vigilant and advise the above named offi cers of any litter, fl y- tipping, dog fouling or overgrown pathways (or bins that have not been emptied) and we will do our best to resolve the problem.
LET’S MAKE OUR TOWN SPECIAL.

The spring bedding has been wonderfully attractive this year with some gorgeously scented
hyacinths, daffodils, tulips, wallfl owers and primula. Thanks go to the Council workers and the volunteers who keep these beds well-tended. Also to our sponsors for their generous support.
