Upton Friends Of The Practice
Sadly it is necessary to report that Upton Friends of the Practice will cease to operate at the end of April due to administrative diffi culties.
It was fi rst set up in 1984 by a health visitor and was managed by social services, being mainly a befriending service. After cutbacks in social services in 1990, three volunteers were asked to take over the running of Friends of the Practice. They were Pat Derrick, Clarice Butler and Heather Grady. These three built up the number of volunteers and began to organise transport to the surgery and other medical facilities.
In recent years the number of volunteers has fallen, but we have continued to provide transport for many of the surgery’s patients.
I would like to thank all of the drivers who have over many years given freely and willingly of their time to assist others. I would also like to thank the receptionists, without whose assistance we would not have been able to continue for so long.
