Lytchett Minster & Upton Gardening Club

Lytchett Minster and Upton Gardening Club is 75 years old this year. If you have any memories or photos about the club, we would be very pleased to hear from you. We are researching our history and hope to write an article for you shortly. We also hope to have a mural painted and to have a display in one of the Upton flower beds, and an afternoon tea at Upton Country Park, so we will keep you posted.

In March, Joy Michaud spoke about ‘Choosing the Right Vegetable Varieties.’ Joy gave a very interesting talk and was able to show us which type of soil to grow various varieties in. She also bought seeds to sell, so hopefully you will be able to see the results in our gardens later in the year.

Tessa Burrows Programme for 2017 – Why not join us?

Fragrant English Roses: A talk by Martin Young on Thursday 25th May at 7.30pm. There is nothing nicer in our gardens than traditional, perfumed roses, but unfortunately, the traditional varieties are often prone to black spot and other infections.

Martin will explain which ones to grow and how to help prevent the problems. Our visitors’ entry is £3 and includes tea and biscuits.

Annual Spring Plant Sale: Saturday 13th May, from 10am-12noon at the Community Centre. We shall again be sharing this event with the Day Centre, who will be selling crafts, cakes, etc, and morning teas, coffees and cakes. The Gardening Club will have lots of plants to sell, information on how to grow them, etc, plus a gardening raffle, produce stall and gardening implements for sale. Come and enjoy the morning.

22nd June: Breaking the Rules – Container Gardening with a Twist by Jonathan Garrett
