CRESTCHIC LAUNCHES TRAILERED LOADBANKS

TEDDINGTON REPORTS SIGNIFICANT NEW INVESTMENT IN MANUFACTURING MACHINES FOR THE UK

AMPS members, Engineering specialist Teddington, reports strong start to 2017 with significant new investment. The company, which specialises in electronics, critical systems, control panel technology, appliance con- trols and valve fabrication for sectors such as defence, aerospace, energy and trans- port, recently took delivery of three new pieces of equip- ment at its manufacturing centre in Cornwall.

Among them was a £35,000 Pillarhouse Pilot 29 selective soldering machine – the first of its kind to be used in the UK.

James Henderson, Managing Director of Teddington Group, told UKPN the state of the art machinery would lead to even greater efficiency in manufacturing

restchic, specialised loadbank manufacturer and rental company, has launched a trailered solution to the market to assist in the transportation of sizeable loadbanks.

In response to customers’ needs, Crestchic’s extensive range of loadbanks can now be supplied and mounted to a purpose-built trailer for loadbanks from 100kw to 2000kw. The company has partnered with Knott-Avonride for this

new offering, a well-established company with a reputation for technological expertise and skill. The trailers supplied by Knott-Avonride are UK/EU road legal and available from stock with a cover for added protection. This new packaged solution adds to the existing frames and container units available from Crestchic.

Crestchic design and manufacture a wide range of loadbanks to provide accurate electrical loads for testing power sources. Specific voltage, frequency and connections

requirements are available dependent on requirements and all loadbanks employ stainless steel finned elements for maximum heat dissipation and durability.

Paul

Brickman, sales and marketing director at Crestchic told WIP: “We already offer a variety of packaged solutions for our loadbanks so adding trailers to our range was the natural next step."

new 10 MW lithium-ion battery is being installed at a biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant at Blackburn Meadows near Sheffield. The new energy storage project will help keep power supplies stable and balance the range of power generation sources feeding into the UK’s national grid.Blackburn Meadows CHP. The site is one of E.ON’s eight projects awarded a contract by the UK National Grid, which will use the batteries to help balance supply and demand, a role which is becoming increasingly important with the growth of more volatile, weather-dependent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. It is estimated that these projects will save National Grid and thus customers about £200 million a year in transmission costs.

batteries should be able to provide extra power to the network at times of peak demand as part of the Capacity Market. Blackburn Meadows CHP plant is a 30 MW renewable energy plant which can produce enough power for around 40,000 homes, converting recycled waste wood into electricity. It also uses combined heat and power technology that captures the heat produced through the electricity generation process to be used in a district heating scheme providing heat to customers including Sheffield Forgemasters, the Motorpoint Arena and Ice Sheffield.

helping to keep prices low despite rising import costs. “The threat of Brexit has definitely made it a challeng- ing start to the year and mar- gins are certainly a lot tighter, but interestingly we are still incredibly busy,” Mr Henderson said.

Engie buys Keeepmoat’s regeneration arm

Engie has bought Keepmoat’s regeneration section. The construction company has links with over 170 local councils across the UK and ENGIE is set to develop the newly-purchased business in tandem with its energy efficiency expertise.

In the UK, Engie employs 17,000 people and is a major provider of property services and energy management, including district heating, to local authorities and businesses Keepmoat cur- rently has a £1bn order book and a £9bn pipeline of regeneration opportunities across the UK.

“Critical to our business in the coming months – and to others in the manufacturing sector – will be the ability to find smarter ways to design, develop and deliver solutions for our clients." Teddington has also invested in a new £25,000 Nordson Yestech BX12 optical inspec- tion unit that uses multiple cameras and state of art image recognition to check the quality of a circuit board to ensure all components have been positioned and soldered correctly.

Wilfrid Petrie, CEO of Engie in the UK & Ireland, said: “Engie aims to be the number one partner for cities and places in the UK and with the Keepmoat regeneration busi- ness we are extending and deepening our relationships with local authorities.

“By combining our energy expertise with an expanded services capability we can make a bigger impact, as we help to improve the lives of the communities we serve. Buildings account for 30% of UK carbon emissions and our investment in Keepmoat underlines our long-term commitment to the UK.”
