Standby generator set for 5-star West Sussex hotel operation

EMERGENCY POWER

Following a series of localised power cuts a prestigious 5star hotel chain was keen to install a standby generator installation at an 89bedroom country hotel located in West Sussex. It turned to one of the UK's leading industrial generator specialists, The Generator Company, Chatham, Rochester, reports UKPN.

A spokesman for The Generator Company told UKPN: "As soon as the hotel contacted us we visited the site to assess the most suitable standby generator for the installation. Access to their desired generator location was tight, through a picturesque archway, but our Project Manager confirmed that - thanks to our manoeuverability expertise into and through tight spaces - this could be accommo- dated without the need to either break down the equipment into smaller sections and then rebuild it - or even to hire a substantial crane. “This news was a great relief to the client as it would reduce costs and also minimise dis- ruption for the client’s guests and staff and ensure the day to day running of the hotel was maintained with minimal interruption. "We recommended a 600kVA automatic mains failure diesel powered standby genera- tor complete with a DSE 7310 set mounted

Once our standby generator solution and price had been submitted and approved with their Head Office our Project Manager liaised with the client to book the standby generator installation into our program of works schedule."

On the agreed date The Generator installation team delivered the

600kVA standby generator to site and manoeuvered it through the archway into the hotel grounds and positioned it onto the hard standing base which had already been constructed. The team engineers then installed the mild steel exhaust system and flexible engine manifold to the generator as per TGC's detailed CAD drawings which had been previously agreed with the client. On completion of the electrical connections TGC personnel carried out standard function- al checks and a witness test prior to

commissioning the generator to prove its performance. A TGC service engineer then returned to site to successfully commission the standby generator installation. This was undertaken using a loadbank to test the generator’s performance under differing power loads to guarantee its operating specification.
