City of London retailer calls on MEMS Power Generation for help

EMERGENCY POWER

A failure within the LV switchgear resulted in a power outage for one of the onsite retailers in the City of London, disrupting the smooth running of its flagship store. The emergency 24/7 power supplied by MEMS allowed the retailer to remain open and operate as normal with minimal interruption of power thanks to the provision of a temporary power supply. MEMS' reliability enabled the retailer to continue to run over a period of nine weeks until power was properly reinstated, reports UKPN.

suffered a serious power outage. MEMS critical solutions team arrived on site within 90 minutes from the initial call to undertake a full technical review of site, agree- ing with the client on the emergency generator's location, cable route and on the requirements of essential access equipment. MEMS then proceeded with the supply of a single 1250kVA three-phase generator ,along with the installation of 500 metres of 240mm cable. A technical review of the site identified some health and safety concerns which would require the cable to be positioned at a high level when passing through public areas to avoid trip hazards.

MEMS' reliability enabled the retailer to continue to run over a period of nine weeks until power was properly reinstated. A spokesman from MES commented: "As one of the country’s leading standby power suppliers and a previous supplier of emergency power to the site, MEMS was the client’s first port of call. The situation was resolved thanks to the use of access equipment and the expert intervention of the MEMS critical solutions team."

Once final connections has been made, the generator installation was then commissioned against site load to ensure the optimum operational efficiency. The project then passed to the MEMS project management team who used remote monitoring software to ensure that a fuel management program was in place. They also scheduled all the necessary future planned maintenance requirements. MEMS Power Generation is one of the
