6,000 homes now receiving electricity generated by the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm
Up to 6,000 homes in UK are now receiving electricity from the first fully-completed wind turbine on Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm. When fully operational later in 2017
Aggreko and The European Tour announce a new long term partnership agreed until 2023
Aggreko says it has become the European Tour’s temporary power and climate control supplier, servicing multiple men’s professional golf tournaments across the world, including four premium Rolex Series events per year and The 2018 and 2022 Ryder Cups.
the entire offshore wind farm will provide electricity to over 400,000 homes. After a successful installation of the first wind turbine in early January 2017, operator Statoil and partners Masdar and Statkraft were able to set the first turbine in production on February 7th, delivering electricity to UK National Grid. "This is a significant milestone for one of the largest off- shore wind farms in Europe. I am particularly satisfied with the on time deliveries and the HSE performance so far," says Margareth Øvrum, Statoil’s executive vice president for Technology, Projects and Drilling told UKPN. Altogether 67 foundations were installed on the Dudgeon Bank last year, along with the cables and the offshore substation that collects the power generated by the wind turbines.
This work involved as much as 2,000 vessel days and almost the same number is anticipated this year for the installation of turbines. The Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm site is located 32 km
offshore from Norfolk, and is 20 km east of the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, where Statoil currently holds a 40% share. The Dudgeon Offshore Wind farm consists of 67 six-megawatt wind turbine generators with a total installed capacity of 402 MW producing 1.73 TWh/year - equivalent to the consumption of more than 400,000 UK households.
The £1.5 billion Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm project is
part of Statoil’s strategy is to gradually complement the oil and gas portfolio with profitable renewable energy and other low-carbon solutions.
nergy UK is asking the British government to consider an official national infrastructure programme to champion energy efficiency. The body has issued a report calling for homes to be made more energy efficient as a ‘national priority’ paid for through taxes. Currently, improvements to the energy efficiency of homes are paid for through a levy on consumer bills, but the report called for any subsidies for a national programme to be funded from general taxation to avoid unfairly hitting those in fuel poverty. Improving the efficiency of homes will cut consumer costs as they will use less energy, with a report by the Government's Committee on Climate Change revealing bills were down over the past eight years because of more efficient appliances. A national infrastructure efficiency programme, for which fuel poverty campaigners have long argued, will help build a strong supply chain and encourage competition, the report argued. A range of measures could be used, according to the report’s authors, including hydrogen or low-carbon gases to replace natural gas, district heating systems, heat pumps and hybrid tech- nologies. Pilot schemes and research are needed to assess the pros and cons of the various technologies and the impact on the grid of turning to electricity to provide heat should be analysed. Lawrence Slade, chief executive of Energy UK, said: ""To tackle climate change, we need to have an honest debate about benefits and costs. All sectors including heat and trans- port need to work together and play their part.”
