NASR Special Olympics Participation Eligibility


Special Olympics training and competition is open to every person with intellectual disabilities, 8 years & older. All athletes must have the following completed before participation:


•Current Special Olympics Medical Application on file prior to participation •NASR Belvidere Annual Information Form •Attend a Parent/Athlete meeting to go over handbook with Special Olympics

Special Olympics Tennis Skills (Ages 8 & Older) Join us for our 2nd season of Tennis Skills! Te Individual Skills tournament is comprised of the following 7 events: Forehand & Backhand Volley, Forehand & Backhand Groundstroke, Serve- Deuce & Serve-Advantage Court, and Alternating Groundstrokes. Limited tennis racquets available for athlete use during practice and competition, you are encouraged to bring your own racquet. Te Special Olympics District Tennis Completion is on Saturday, July 8th in Aurora. Transportation is only provided to and from games and

Special Olympics Softball (Ages 8 & Older) Join us this summer for Special Olympics Soſtball! Tere are 2 options for your participation in soſtball this summer; individual skills or the slow pitch team. Te slow pitch soſtball team is for individuals who have mastered the basic skills of the sport such as hitting, throwing, and catching. Te individual skills competition is for those developing skills or those who are just beginning to learn the sport. Athletes must bring a soſtball glove and water bottle to each practice or game. Athletes who participate in the slow pitch soſtball team will compete locally for games against other Area 1 teams. Information on game nights will be distributed throughout the season. Te S.O. District Soſtball Tournament will be on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the Elgin Sports Complex. All gold medal winners will advance to state level competition at the


Outdoor Sports Festival held in Decatur, September 9th – 10th. Transportation is only provided to and from games and tournaments. (KS) Location: Prairie Fields

Special Olympics Volleyball (Ages 8 & Older) Bump, set, spike, and score your way into NASR-Belvidere’s 3rd season of Special Olympics Volleyball. Tis year, athletes will have the ability to participate in the traditional or modified team competitions. Athletes will be placed on either team based on ability and participation. Traditional volleyball teams follow the standard rules of the game and equipment. Modified volleyball teams follow standard volleyball rules, but the court is smaller, the net is lower, and the ball is of a lighter weight. Teams will compete in the District Volleyball Tournament on September 16th in LaSalle, IL. Gold medal teams advance to the state competition at Fall Games in Rockford, October 21st & 22nd. Transportation is only provided to and from games and

Special Olympics Bowling (Ages 6 & Older) It’s time to roll some strikes! Join your teammates as you get ready to participate in the 2017 Special Olympics Tournament. Fee includes shoes, 2 games of bowling, individual instructions; as needed, and transportation to and from the Special Olympics Bowling Tournament. Bowlers are placed on lanes according to age level and skill. Fee also includes participation in the annual NASR Bowling Tournament on July 15th at the Cherry Bowl and the Special Olympics Area Tournament on August 19th & 20th at the 4 Seasons Bowling Center in Freeport. Te Special Olympics Ramp Bowling Tournament is on September 1st at Park Lanes. Transportation is only provided to and from games and
