nniversary Sibford’s winning ways
A group of 12 Sibford pupils have been named as runners-up in the World Book Day 2017 competition. Theme for the competition was ‘A World of Stories’ … which the pupils illustrated with a giant globe displaying a range of books. Twelve-year-old Catherine explained: “We wanted our world of stories to cover all areas of reading, so we asked the whole school, from our nursery pupils through to teachers, for suggestions. The result was everything from ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘Winnie the Pooh’ through to ‘Girl on the Train’ and ‘Room with a View’.”
Fourteen-year-old Jessica added: “We wanted to create a globe that was long lasting so that we could keep adding to it. We therefore used willow, grown in the school grounds, and covered it with papier-mâché sea and felt continents. Every time a new title is reviewed on Eclipse [the Library computer system] we will create a new book to hang on our world. This will hopefully not just look pretty in the library but will also help everyone to be continually inspired to read.”
As runners up, the team received a copy of ‘A Child of Books’, signed by New York Times best-selling author- illustrator Oliver Jeffers and fine artist Sam Winston, plus a framed limited edition print from the book which will go on display in the school library.
