Sibford School rides to victory

Sibford’s Equestrian Team rode to double victory in the grand final of the 2016/17 Bloxham School Eventer Challenge Series in February. Maizey, Tom and Jack took first place in the team event … while Maizey was named top rider in the individual event. Hosted at

Washbrook Farm, home to the prestigious Aston- le-Walls equestrian facility, riders in the Eventer Challenge have been accumulating points since the series began in October. Claire Ferley, PE teacher at Sibford School, said: “This is the first time that the team has competed in the Eventer Challenge and they were up against some strong competition from other schools. They had an excellent start to the competition in the first round back in October, when Maizey came in first and Jack second, and since then have been extremely consistent in their performance meaning they were in a strong position going into the final.” Speaking about the grand final, Tom said: I was very nervous and wasn’t sure we’d do it. Jack and I were the first two to gain clear rounds, and it was then all down to Maizey. There was half a point between her and another rider but she beat her, meaning she took the individual award and we got the team prize.”

All three riders ended up in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard following the grand final with Maizey being placed in 1st place, Tom in 5th and Jack in 6th.

crowned British Open Senior KZ1 Karting Champion. The title follows The Association of British Kart Clubs Open Plate meeting which took

place in March at Rowrah in Cumbria. Dan’s Dad, Brian explained: “We left home at 5am on the Friday and got home at 11pm on Sunday. It rained for the whole three days so the driving conditions were pretty awful. However, the outcome could not have been better and Dan is now the British Open Senior KZ1 Champion.” The victory means that Dan is now the most successful KZ1 driver in Britain. Other titles under his belt include British GP Champion, MSA British Super One No. 2 and The British Super Four No. 4.

“KZ1 is the fastest and most difficult karting class … Dan’s kart accelerates as fast as a Ferrari and is capable of well over 100 miles an hour!” said Brian “Furthermore, Dan is the youngest ever competitor to achieve this success … most of the other drivers are in their twenties and thirties.” • Dan is pictured top with his trophy and below in action.
