Sibford pupil selected for RFU academy


Sibford School pupil Amy has been selected for the RFU’s South West Junior Academy programme 2017. The 15-year-old was picked


from a group of about 80 girls put forward by the counties within the South West Division including Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Devon, Cornwall, Hampshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset.


She travelled to Bovington,


Wareham, to attend her first Junior Academy Training Camp in February and competed in her first match for the Academy in April when the South West team beat the Midlands team 32-0. Amy’s mum Emma said: “This is the next step up from playing County Rugby and offers the chance for Amy to become involved in divisional rugby representing the South West.” Sibford Head, Toby Spence, added: “We are delighted that Amy has been selected for this opportunity and wish her all the very best.”


Olympic Medalist guests at Sports Awards


Olympic gold medallist Hollie Webb was guest speaker at the 2017 Sibford School Sports Awards. Hollie scored the winning goal as Team GB beat the Netherlands in a dramatic shoot-out to claim Olympic hockey gold. She joined pupils and staff as they gathered at Ettington Chase near Stratford to recognise sporting achievements throughout the year. For a full report turn to page 14.
