HOUSE & HOME 2017 trends for your Continued...

Weaving texture into an interior makes it more inviting and the idea of mixing fabrics and materials are in general, on the rise. More and more texture is being used in every form, from brushed brass tables to feature lights to fabrics and wallpapers. Draping a knobbly wool throw over a leather chair or mix fabric textures, front and back of scatter cushions. Textures that are creat- ed with timber, clay and wicker are creating a stir in interiors and give us a feeling of warmth which I think we all love in our surroundings Quirky lighting is a must for the interior

design trendsetter. Think of lighting as an ac- cessory for your home, it’s the perfect way to show off your unique design style. A quirky lighting fixture looks great in a

dining room or hall, they are great spaces to just go for it and do something unusual. Also, go funky with your bedside reading lamps to create something truly memorable. I’m loving the colours for 2017 with the

muted tones from the catwalk of whites, beiges, pale greys, camel and blush pinks. These are not neutrals but a very soft more

feminine palate. These work well on walls, bedding, scatter cushions and accessories. Theme these colours with geometric

prints and you’ll create a fantastic bright cheerful look to your home. Smart homes are not only on trend but

will become the norm from now on. More and more our lives revolve around technol- ogy and our devices, and so will our homes. We will be seeing more and more creative ways of incorporating charging docks and areas specifically dedicated to these devices into the design of a space. For better or worse, trends that I see

on the way out, are, oversized furniture, the correct use of space is too important to have furniture taking over without the consideration of function. Bespoke made to suit your space is the way to go. Shiny metal finishes are also losing their

shine. Warm metals are replacing them as in brushed bronzes and matt metal finishes. My favourite end to a trend is sticking

strictly to one style, we can now mix it up, antique furniture blended with modern. (not that I always did this anyway, I don’t like rules. The trick is to know how to bend or break them!)
