W The SouthWest Chat
elcome to the March issue of South- West Horse Trader. If you are picking us up for the first time,
welcome. I just read last month’s column and
had to chuckle a bit. I discussed prepara- tion for the upcoming show season and suggested that it would be a good idea to ride my horse and/or work out in prepara- tion for that first full speed run. I chuckled because I did finally report to the trainer and had done neither of the above. I did ride my horse over the last month in
an area no bigger than a lunge line so I can’t consider that preparation. It’s just running a few ba- sics and make sure she’s listening. So at my first les- son, I have to admit that my rear was slamming and my arms were flapping for my first set of rundowns. I quickly regreted the lack of yoga and working
out so that my core would be nice and strong. Luckily my pony was being a good girl and just did her job de- spite me riding like a trick rider. I much appreciated it to my previous lesson where I demonstrated my abil- ity to ride with my legs and arms on one side of the horse and yet stay on while she kept changing direc- tions. It really was a miracle. I suggest that if this ever happens to you . . . do not run straight for the trainer aboard his 3 year old and attempt to use them as a fence to stop all forward motion. It’s hard to believe that it’s time to be back at it in
the show pen! I’m looking forward to seeing all my friends and catch up on the winter shenanigans. w
We are in the process of producing the next two horse for sale issues. The Sale Horse Resource is a guide devel- oped to assist buyers and sellers at major Performance Events and World Shows to locate Horses For Sale on the show property. The first issue was successfully dis- tributed at the 2016 NRHA Futurity. The service includes printed advertising space, a video/text back service pro- vided by The Pony Xpress, Facebook promotion and a listing on the website
www.salehorseresource.com.
