Texas Welcomes Petschenig Show Jumping to Pilot Point
Contributed by Kasha Ford, Silver Buckle Services
While Texas is no stranger to capable horsemen and women, most people typical- ly think of Western Performance Stock and sprawling cattle ranches when horses are men- tioned in the same sentence as Texas. However, Texas has a very strong and diverse blend of riders and equine enthusiasts who hold a large interest in quality English horses, especially those centered on the jump- ing disciplines. To fill that unique niche North Texas is lucky to have two exciting new resi- dents in Pilot Point; Peter Petschenig and Na- thalie Cooper. Peter, who originally hails from the Salz-
burg region of Austria, not only boasts numer- ous Grand Prix wins on three continents, but also top finishes in World Cup competition. Peter, who also holds an MBA, has ridden and trained for an impressive list of top owners and sponsors worldwide including: Sportpfer- de Puchner (Austria), Haras Siracusa Osorno (Chile and Austria), Sportheste Inc. (Califor- nia), Markus and Beat Maendli (Switzerland), and Willi Melliger (Switzerland). For the last 4 years, since moving to the United States, Pe- ter has focused on competing and building a Hunter/Jumper business for clients in Califor- nia. As a competitor Peter is a regular at the major west coast show jumping events, includ- ing HITS. During 2016 Peter accrued over 40 Grand Prix Top Placings including a first in

Smartpak’s 25K Thermal Grand Prix and Sacramento 25K Welcome Grand Prix, as well as a Top 3 placing in Las Vegas’ 50K FEI World Cup Qualifier, to name just a few. Peter has the ability to calmly bring out a horse’s best, both in training and under the rigors of compe- tition.
Nathalie Cooper is no stranger to the world of horses, she comes from a family that spans generations of successes in the equestrian field and one who has built a legacy in the riding community. In fact, Nathalie began her riding career at age three under the tutelage of her Grandfather, USEF Hall of Famer Morton “Cappy” Smith. Carrying on family traditions, from childhood on Nathalie won riding awards and competitions too numerous to mention. During college, Nathalie captained the Mount Holyoke Equestrian Team to National Titles, including individual National titles in Open Fences and Flat competition. Upon graduation, Nathalie decided to contin- ue in her families foot- steps and embarked on a career in the equestrian field. In 2009 Nathalie estab- lished Acorn Farm, a highly successful training and coaching business in Orange County, California. Since then, Na- thalie has produced numer- ous top level Equitation, Hunter and Jumper riders. She has mentored students from the lower levels up to qualifying for numerous medal finals including Ma- clay Regionals, CPHA and PCHA, among a few, plus copious Jumper Cham- pions and Hunter Derby

Champions. In addition to her career as a coach and trainer, Nathalie is still a com- petitor and has numerous USHJA National
Hunter Derbies and Grand Prix’s top finish- es to her credit. Nathalie’s gift is taking any horse/rider combination and developing them into a true and competitive partnership. She is friendly, gracious and a pleasure to work with. Together Peter and Nathalie acquired Leg- acy Farms in Pilot Point, during late 2016 and have renamed it Petschenig Show Jumping. While still competing throughout the south- west, the Pilot Point facility will be the heart of the couples training and coaching operation. The Petschenig Show Jumping facility not only offers top level training and instruction, it offers a world caliber care on a beautiful prop- erty. A key feature includes a spacious cov- ered arena for Texas’ renowned unpredictable weather. A beautiful barn and plenty of turnout space. Additionally, the facility has flown in a top European consultant to rework the jumping arenas with specialty footing. Horses and rid- ers in the Petschenig Show Jumping program, and under Peter and Nathalie’s care, are sure to excel in this environment. Peter and Nathalie are currently accepting clients of all levels for training and instruction. Don’t miss an oppor- tunity to learn from these two talented new res- idents and welcome them to Texas!
