The Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100 is an electric-powered concept car that provides an insight into the future thinking of one of the world’s most famous automotive brands. Unveiled to celebrate the centenary of parent company BMW, it has


a lightweight carbon fibre structure and a zero-emissions drive train composed of two 250 kW motors. One is positioned at the front with the other at the rear, channelling power to all four wheels which are housed within futuristic guards. Rolls-Royce anticipate that its concept will be controlled by an


Artificial Intelligence called ‘Eleanor’ and would pick up its passengers when they are ready to travel, delivering them to their destination and appointments in unrivalled luxury.

Richard Moss is a former tennis player-turned-entrepreneur with a dream of turning discarded balls into stylish Bluetooth speakers. Moss estimates that Slazenger supplies more than 55,000 balls each


year alone to the famous Wimbledon tournament, the vast majority of which are then discarded after being used for only a few games. He’s therefore come up with a plan to give a second life to what he


terms “a perfect ergonomic object” as a useful wireless speaker. The hearO has been developed in collaboration with the Paris-based


Innov8 Group and rests on its own charging cradle with a 360-degree magnetic connection. It can continuously stream wireless audio for up to five hours once fully charged.


CENTRE OF ATTENTION


Nike’s recently expanded distribution centre near Antwerp in Belgium is completely powered by renewable energy, including the use of six 150-metre-high wind turbines and solar panels with a surface area equivalent to three soccer fields. Geothermal, hydroelectric and biomass sources are also used. The facility is served by an infrastructure of canals which means that 99 per


cent of in-bound containers arrive via water, saving 14,000 truck journeys a year. More than 95% of waste generated on-site is recycled, pathways used by


employees around the facility are made from recycled footwear material, and a unique daylight capture system provides illumination for the inner areas of the centre, further reducing electricity costs. Outside, sheep will be used to naturally maintain the landscape while on-site


bee hives will contribute to biodiversity efforts through the pollination of flowers. Bert Stevens, Vice President of Supply Chain Operations, Nike Europe, said:


“Our facilities in Belgium are a pinnacle example of how sustainable innovation is embedded into Nike´s growth strategy, which enables us to maximise our performance while minimising our footprint.”
