League is a global robotics-based, life skills challenge that encourages an interest in real-world issues and develops key skills. Competitors pit themselves against other teams from around the UK and Ireland and, for the most successful teams at the UK and Ireland final, from around the globe.


FIRST® LEGO® League develops skills in:


 design and technology  programming and control  computing  mathematics  research  presentation skills  strategic thinking  teamwork.


Teams comprise up to 10 students who must be aged between 9-16 years, as well as an adult mentor. Registered teams receive full guidance and support and a bespoke set of LEGO®


to build a practice tournament field.


Competitors attend one of the many regional tournaments around the British Isles, with the winners going through to the UK and Ireland Final.


FIRST® LEGO® League uses LEGO® MINDSTORMS® to challenge students’ creativity.


Each year competing teams are presented with a new theme and a new challenge.


There are three parts to the challenge:


 Robot Game: the teams build an autonomous robot to undertake a series of tasks around a themed field.


 Project: teams devise and present a solution to a real-world problem linked to the annual theme.


 Core Values: teams demonstrate FIRST® LEGO®


League Core Values including teamwork and friendly competition.

LEGO® League Jr.


is an exciting STEM programme for six to nine year olds. Through meaningful team- based relationships between peers and adults, participants engage in valuable STEM experiences relevant to the world around them. More details can be found on the FIRST® League website.
