TALK BACK WHAT YOU’RE SAYING THIS WEEK

LETTER OF THE

WEEK

EDITORIAL@ TRAVEL WEEKLY. CO.UK

Shame on EasyJet for jumping gun

Story: EasyJet move of legal base from UK ‘almost inevitable’ What disloyalty to all those UK staff that have made this company what it is today. Why does she [easyJet chief executive Carolyn McCall, pictured] not wait until she has spoken to the government regarding post-Brexit policies, laws and regulations? How does she know that easyJet will not secure a better deal after the negotiations are complete? Shame on her for jumping the gun at such an early stage. Carolyn, think about your loyal staff who ensure that you are able to take home that nice hefty pay packet. LIAM STEWART Travel Weekly welcomes a response from easyJet

Mercury response: Deal was for our direct clients

Letter: Mercury’s price rose by £98 with just one click We tracked the email offer concerned back to when it was circulated and found that the hotel offered was a promotion specifically put together for our direct customers email database. The agent had obviously enrolled into this to receive our direct customer offers as this particular promotion was not available through our travel agents.

Airport expansion plans grounded by fall in flying

GROUP

Story: UK air travel ‘to fall by up to 5% by 2020’ due to Brexit Leaving the EU will increase staycations to help UK tourism, balance of payments, the UK economy and the environment. The vote for Brexit makes all the pro-Heathrow projections by the Airports Commission’s Howard Davies null and void. Davies has moved from unbe- lievable to statistically wrong.

BRYAN TOMLINSON Failure of Anatolian Sky Holidays is so sad

Story: Turkey specialist Anatolian Sky Holidays fails So sorry, Akin. A lovely business reflecting your wonderful work ethic and passion for your country. MANUEL MASCARENHAS

Very sorry to hear this news. Our thoughts are with Akin, all of the staff and management, overseas staff and hoteliers who over the years have given our clients some fantastic holidays. LEE HARRISON

The past week [Istanbul airport bomb] must have been the final straw after all the tragic things that have affected Turkey. TARA JONES

Jim Byers @JimByersTravel Excited to see ‘America Wild’ film about 100th year of US national parks. Thanks @BrandUSA!

Funway Holidays @FunwayHolidays Competition alert! Have you seen our USA comp in @travelweekly with Virgin Atlantic and Delta?

Emma Savage @TCEmmaSavage I’m looking after another travel counsellor’s customers at the moment. He’s on holiday in the US for six weeks, lucky thing

QUOTE OF THE

WEEK

“We have 15,000 [ATC] people affecting the movement of 900 million passengers a year at a cost

of €9.5 billion. These are shocking figures”

WILLIE WALSH, chief executive, IAG › Travel Weekly Business, page 79
