Winter 2017 Colors


Women’s fashion this season is all about soft tweeds, colorful plaids, ultra-rich velvets, floral brocades, delicate laces, and wild animal prints; and colors are bright. Embellishments—metallic, pearls, sequins, beads, and feathers—are strong. Extra-long and bell-shaped sleeves are everywhere. Classics such as the military jacket, the trenchcoat, and the pantsuit have all been updated. Styles may remind you of generations past (think, the ‘70s), but worn with the latest shoes, sneakers or boots they become trendy again.


Remember when Avon and Tupperware were specialty leasing vendors in the common area? Well, guess what? Avon could be coming back as it reinvents itself as the “it job” among millennials looking for second jobs to pay off college debts. Avon is scouting for a new group of reps and is betting that today’s fashion-forward 20-something is looking for extra cash. The ideal Avon lady is someone who wants a flexible job scheduled around her full-time employment and is willing to work whenever she wants. In addition to selling an array of cosmetics, Avon now offers “Avon Living” a line of diverse home goods including copper mugs, cocktail shakers and casserole dishes. The question is how well will Avon do with all the choices like Sephora, Ulta and drugstores in shopping centers? In the early 1990s Avon and Tupperware were staples in the common area. What goes around comes back around!
