During the event MPs and Peers were invited to take part in our build-a-glider challenge and later tested their products on a specially-made runway. Although not many MPs could attend the event due to the Budget statement being released on the same day, the Right Hon Matt Hancock, Minister of State responsible for digital policy at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, made the closing address and pledged his support for our cause.

10th Annual Aviation Educators’ Conference – 25th March

The Museum will again be hosting the annual YES (Youth Education Support) Aviation Educators’ Conference. Now in its 10th year, this conference is organised and run by YES with the support of the Museum’s Learning Team. The theme for 2017 is interesting ways of engaging today’s youth in aviation activities, with speakers focussing on methods used by their organisations to attract and retain youth support. The conference is open to all staff and volunteers who help to promote aviation activities. For further information or to book, please contact Virginia Smith on virginia- smith@brooklandsmuseum.com

Learning Team volunteering opportunities

The Museum’s schools and adult learning activities are very popular with our visitors and to continue to deliver these to a high standard we desperately need more volunteers willing to take on roles as Guides, Activity Room Supervisors, Discovery Explainers, Workshop Leaders or Penny Farthing Assistants. Volunteers can give as little as one hour of their time each week. For more information please contact Virginia Smith on virginiasmith@brook- landsmuseum.com. In-house training is provided.

University of the Third Age special days Our programme of special days, developed specif- ically to cater for members of U3A organisations, has proved a huge success with ‘The VC10 and her Royal Connections’ events being booked up almost as soon as new dates are advertised. We have now developed a new day called ‘Gear Sticks and Lipsticks’, focussing on the amazing women drivers who raced at Brooklands. The day starts with a talk on these famous ladies and offers an opportunity for participants to visit the Motoring Village and experience what it was like racing at full speed around the Brooklands
