BTM Goodwood Track Day


A driver’s perspective by Steve Grubb

ednesday 2nd November began bright and early with a final pre-departure check


of tyre pressures and fluid levels on my trusty eight-year-old BMW 320d. Then it was time to enter that iconic destination into the sat-nav ‘Goodwood Motor Circuit’, a venue steeped in motor sport history and one which continues to host so many amazing events.


I have visited many times as a spectator but this was my first visit as a driver and I did not want to risk being late. I arrived in time to get noise tested (with my low-revving diesel not troubling the 98Db limit), grab a coffee and ogle the other vehicles on display before the morning briefing. And what vehicles! Brooklands Trust Members had turned out in force with some stunning cars from across the decades. They ranged from some of the very latest, including a Jaguar F-type R and a brand new BMW M4, to several classics – perhaps the pick being a beautiful 1950 Jaguar XK120 in full race trim.


After an informative and clear briefing, it was time to grab a helmet and get out on track with the other beginners and novices to get a feel for the circuit before being sent out in experience-
