Bulletin, at which point I must express a massive thank you to Gareth Tarr for his excellent reports on the majority of the 2016 talks. Thank you Gareth.

I confess that the two final talks of the year

were pure joy to organise and host, again thanks to our two anchor men, Simon Taylor and Steve Cropley for their help in making both evenings such successes. Whilst we are on the subject of success, on 2nd November our Vice-Chairman Julian Grimwade and myself were guests at the annual RAC Motoring Book of the Year awards, held at the club's historic Pall Mall home. The event played host to the great and good from the world of automotive and motor sport publishing. Amongst the many guests were Henry Hope-Frost, Steve Cropley, Gordon Cruickshank and Simon Taylor. The event was hosted by former guests at Brooklands, Graham Robson and Karl Ludvigsen. We were delighted to hear the overall winning book was Daring Drivers, Deadly Tracks by Brian Redman who was our guest earlier in the year. So, finally to our lunch with Di Spires, author

of I Just Made the Tea on Sunday 30th October. More than 60 Members and guests attended and listened to a very light-hearted but at times sad account of life in the F1 paddock over the past 30 years. Once again you can read a full account of the lunch in this Bulletin. The Classic Talks calendar The Classic Talks diary is filling up rapidly, start- ing with James ‘Mac’ Hulbert discussing the development and ownership of the ERA R4D on Thursday 5th January. On Thursday 16th February we will play host

to Patrick Wood, MD of Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd who will explain how this now

taken-for-granted technology affects all our lives. On the afternoon of Sunday 19th February we will pay tribute to the late Captain Eric ‘Winkle’ Melrose-Brown RN. Our fourth annual Family Talk will take place on the afternoon of Sunday 26th February. Our special guest this year will be Nick Arnold, author of the Horrible Science books and his subject will be ‘Frightful Flight and Powerful Cars’, with experiments and demonstrations of the forces and principles involved in both. A must-have Christmas present for all the family, tickets are on sale via the BTM website or BTM office at £8 per adult and £3 per youngster aged seven to 16 years. Under sevens are free. Please note this will talk will have a 4.00pm start in the Napier Room. On Thursday 23rd March our guest will be Neil Lomax, his subject being the Hawker- Siddeley HS121 Trident airliner. Harry Sherrard will join us on Thursday 20th

April to talk about his 30 years in motor sport. On Thursday 18th May a regular visitor to

Brooklands, John Reaks, will be in conversation with motor sport commentator Tony Webb, with the subject of owning and driving the Benetton B190 F1 car. This car was designed by Rory Byrne and John Bernard and was campaigned in the 1990 season, winning in Japan and Australia in the hands of the F1 legend Nelson Piquet. We hope to have the B190 in the Paddock on the evening. Group Captain Marcus Wills will join us on Thursday 15th June to discuss his flying life with the Vickers VC10 and as a member of the Queen’s Flight. On Thursday 13th July Brooklands will welcome Charles Trevelyan, Chairman of the

Nick Arnold filming the Horrible Science show.
