Looking forward to future successes


I hope that you have enjoyed a well-deserved break over the festive period and are settled back into business for a prosperous 2017. Over the past year, the first as Devon Chamber of Commerce, membership has grown by over 12%


and our ambition for 2017 is to become the biggest chamber of Commerce in the South West representing the largest county in the region. Not only has the Chamber grown but it is establishing new exciting relationships with the other Chamber’s in the county to provide a family of organisations delivering locally and working together to provide the strategic business leadership Devon needs. The final quarterly economic survey of 2016 showed that the majority of businesses enter 2017 with


a positive outlook with capital investment and staff recruitment up and confidence that turnover growth and profitability shall increase, however no-one can be complacent, there are challenges too. Inflation is on the rise and pressure to raise interest rates may increase later in the year. There is


also the reality of Brexit to be faced and the possible impact of a Trump residency in the USA. Devon Chamber however is determined to help businesses grow throughout the year and has a packed programme of activities including our established, well-attended events such as Crunchy Breakfast, City Conversations and company visits, as well as our larger exhibitions, conferences and black tie dinners that take place throughout the year.
