will be, but they don’t always get to see it in their lifetime. A Vinoy club member himself, Fred has watched the Vinoy and the surrounding area transform from a virtual ghost town to a vibrant community. A true optimist, Fred saw what most
developers could not in a dilapidated old hotel in the late 1980s. What appeared an eyesore beyond repair to most, Fred saw as an opportunity for the rebirth of a legendary icon and rallied his troops to commit $93 million dollars to restore not only the hotel, but future investors’ faith in Downtown St. Petersburg’s potential. Fred paved the way for new development in the area, making his vision for a spec- tacular hotel at the heart of a vibrant city a reality. Just as Fred sought to reinvent
downtown, The Vinoy is staying true to Fred’s vision and reinventing his namesake restaurant to tie together all he achieved with the storied history of the building. Fred is absolutely right when he says you will have a great time at Fred’s Cellar, open to resort guests and Vinoy Club members only. Shhhhh…You need a password to enter. Open every Friday and Saturday.
