Holmesdale head quits over federation change

WELL-respected Malling head teacher Patrick Hannaway has stepped down from his post. His decision, which was an- nounced in a letter issued by his board of governors on January 3, is with immediate effect. It gives the decision not to con-

tinue running The Malling and Holmesdale Schools as a Federation as the reason for his decision. A consequence of the change

would have seen Mr Hannaway re- linquish his job as executive head of both schools since 2011 for the post of head at Holmesdale. His col- league Tina Bissett will now step up into his role. Richard Sams, chair of the now dissolved Malling Holmesdale Fed- eration governing body, said: “One consequence of the process of dis- solving the Malling Holmesdale Federation is thatPatrickHannaway has decided to seek new challenges elsewhere. “The governors have accepted

Patrick’s decision and wish him the best of luck in his next role.” He added: “The governors recog-

cision to take up the mantle, adding: “In the short time Tina has worked at Holmesdale, she has showed ded- ication and enthusiasm towards im- proving the education provision of our pupils. We are pleased Tina has accepted the role.” Mr Sams, who has also stood

down as chairman of the federa- tion’s board of governors, said: “I wish everybody associated with The Holmesdale and The Malling Schools the best of luck for the fu- ture. I willwatch their ongoing evo- lution with interest.” Bob Huelin has agreed to be nom-

inated as the new chair of governors of The Holmesdale School. Mrs Bissett, who joined the school

News Hot ash blaze

FIREFIGHTERS are reminding people to dispose of hot ashes care- fully after a shed blaze in Ley- bourne. Fire crews were alerted to the

blaze by the resident, who saw that her shed was on fire from her kitchen window. Two fire engines from Larkfield

and Borough Green were sent to the house in Woodlea, where crews used a hose to put the fire out. Larkfield crew manager Julian Hartley said: “It appears that the residents thought the ashes from their log burner were sufficiently cool to store in their garden shed. Unfortunately, ashes that appear cool are often hot deep inside. The ashes smouldered slowly, spread- ing to logs and patio furniture.”
